Zero Paperback Sales on Christmas?

Hello, I get an average of 40 paperbacks, and 20 kindle sales a day. My paperbacks on the particular day 25th December (Christmas) has been zero. Is this because of the heavy Christmas sales traffic that my reports are updated really late? The kindle sale has risen to 35 (normally this would be 20). Anyone else having this issue? Thanks!

I haven't sold any in the past 24 hours, either, though I did sell a few e-books. Most people had better things to do on Christmas Day than shop online.

Are you writing non-fiction? It's very unusual to sell more print than digital, though for December my paperback sales have been very strong. I still sell more e-books, though that's because I have more of them. (Of the titles available in both formats, December print sales were indeed stronger. E-books just don't make much of a splash under the Christmas tree.)

Well, my paperback ranks are kinda skyrocketing so I doubt that. Also, I noticed the paperback report says "Units SHIPPED", so maybe everyone was busy with Christmas and the shipping got delayed. I publish non-fic. Funny my case is the exact opposite, paperbacks outsell kindle.

Cheers!

Having the same thing happening to me right now. I went from 70-100 paperback (KDP Print) sales a day to 0, which I find hard to believe in my genre.

The sales rank of my books has been moving up and down between 10.000 - 25.000 bsr during this time. which would indicate that sales are being made.

Most likely is that sales wont show until they are shipped. Amazon might not continue deliveries until tomorrow(?).

CookFry, have you noticed the sale of your paperback books return to normal, or are you still seeing no sales? I ask because the sale of my paperback dropped to zero on 12/23/16 and I haven't seen one copy sold since. For about two months I averaged 2-3 paperback sales a day to suddenly nothing. Also, the number of paperback sales in CreateSpace is not the same as Author Central. Any ideas?

A lot of us had other stuff to occupy us on December 25 -- and have only now begun to breath again.

Obviously no books shipped out on Christmas. Who's going to be working in the mailroom?

Read your chart for KDP-Print. It doesn't show sales, but units actually shipped. No units shipped on a holiday when no one is working? Imagine that.

I don't know, Ralph. If anyone is able to get his slaves working on Christmas Day, it's ole Jeff Bezos!

FWIW, I looked at my four top-selling paperbacks, and there are no sales recorded for December 24 or 25. Indeed, sales really stopped on the 22nd, which makes sense, given that December sales are very likely to be Christmas presents, and the 22nd is the last day you could hope for Prime delivery before sundown on Christmas Eve.

Oddly, my paperback sales are running very close to Kindle sales for January, too. And of the books that exist in both formats, print is handily outselling digital. Perhaps it is true that e-books were a passing fad.

I hasten to add that these top-selling books are all non-fiction. I don't sell many novels in print editions these days.

Good luck! -- NJ

OTOH, you don't have any books in KDP-Print. CreateSpace credits sales when the credit card clears, or so I've been told by CS, but KDP-Print shows actual shipments as reported to KDP by the POD company assigned the printing and shipping. Not Bezo's slaves, but a proxy's...perhaps they managed a 3-day weekend (Sat-Mon) while the Boss was out dining on fatted goose.
