I have had zero sales for several days now. This has never happened before. I don't know what to think about it. I'm afraid my sales won't bounce back with my rankings sinking so low. I'm waiting for my illustrator to finish a book cover for me and then I'll have a new title out. Sometimes that helps. I don't even feel like writing anything right now. Sorry, I just realized how whiney I was sounding. Coffee, or the lack thereof is obviously to blame. I shall go brew myself a fresh outlook on life.
It's okay. Once you get more books out there, you won't have the days long lag between sales, maybe every now and then. Keep on writing. Each new book will bring you closer to a life of authorly independence.
I thought I was the only one. I was going steady at a couple a day for the past couple months and then wham, a wall about a week ago. I was experimenting with raising/lowering prices, though, so I may have done it to myself inadvertently.
To the OP, sometimes Amazon has a weird lag in their reporting, but it's also the end of the month and things tend to slow down for some reason. Don't let it get you down and definitely keep writing. I quit checking sales and reviews on a regular basis because anything negative, no matter how small, made me doubt myself and I noticed I wouldn't feel inspired to write.
I went through this a few days ago and I have to admit that I panicked. Today I had a few sales which kind of brightened my day. I think a couple of things helped get it started again. I went in and changed a couple of my category listings, not by much but enough to put the books in front of someone that may not have seen them yet. I also tweaked the the descriptions a little bit.
Sales can be finicky but remember that you are not alone. I hope sales pick up for you soon. As someone else said, it always helps to put a new title out there.
I was unable to respond from work (government computer) But I appreciate all of the support. @thetimucuan really cracked me up. Now it's long past time for coffee and time for a little Rebel Yell (Bourbon) and Coke.
This last week or two my sales have been like buses - I wait ages for one then six come long at once. I do believe that Amazon's reporting is very flaky right now (more than usual).
But there are also some other changes in my sales pattern. My best seller ('best' being a relative term compared to some authors here) has sold a consistent about one a day since it went on sale last September. Yet, after it reached a total of 13 sales around the tenth of this month, not a single sale since!
I have no idea whether this is reflective of the market right now, or one of Amazon's never-ending glitches.
It's probably just a lack of people wanting to buy your book, at the moment... IMHO.
I have one book with consistent sales, another that's been dead for a month. And by that I mean DOA - 0 sales!
The longer a book doesn't sell, the higher goes the sales ranking number, making it even less likely to 'show up' in the radar of someone looking for a book on that subject.
That's the one book I DON'T MARKET.... thus, it doesn't have a chance to see the light of day.
If you've been lucky enough to get sales without any effort (per se - not counting the quality, writing, content, etc.) on your part - meaning without any additional marketing efforts, then you've been fortunate.
Now, it's time to either focus your energies on another book and stop worrying about the one with low or no sales, or commence a marketing campaign on your book to boost sales.
