Proposing a KDP "Onboarding" Forum for New Authors

Please consider creating a KDP "Onboarding" forum for new authors. This forum, unlike the others, would have an Amazon-staff host who monitors participant interactions and represents KDP when necessary. This forum would provide a sanctuary for those who simply want to see authentic Q & A threads about the experience of publishing on KDP.

Currently, newbies have to wander through the KDP General Questions Forum, which is a slime pit, a 24/7 Spammers-n-Scammers convention, where authors openly spam each other, swap positive reviews, form facebook "like" rings with others who have no intention of ever reading the dozens of books they "like," discuss ways they could possibly weasel out of their negative reviews (all of which were written by jealous rivals or assassins hired by the Big 6, of course), petition Amazon to give customers the option to leave positive reviews or none at all (yes, this was an actual petition launched on this forum), and generally share every dirty trick and con they've come across by way of "marketing" their books.

There are only a handful of thoughtful posters who step in to try to curb the slimy behavior, and they often just get hit with a new wave of slime for their trouble. I imagine that this handful of folks would spend some quality time answering questions in the Onboarding Forum.

Now, don't get me wrong. Slime pits have their place. Some creatures have evolved specifically to inhabit them. Some new authors may even want to skip the Onboarding Forum and dive right into the slime. But it might be nice to know that there's always a place you can go to rinse off.

I could not agree more with a majority of this post, though I don't see KDP stepping in to set up a special forum for new authors. I also don't consider them the "big 6" anymore as they are but faded blips on the starmap of publishing in 2012. The insignificant 6 maybe.

I do my best to jump on here and help answer questions when I can. And you are correct. Trolls will be trolls. Help us Amazon KDP-Wan Kenobi...you are our only hope.

"The insignificant 6"--I like that. And you're likely right about Amazon not stepping in.

I just think it's a shame that this "community" has so many authors who appear to be here for no other reason than to use their fellow authors for their own personal gain.
