Correct. I had someone tell me all the things wrong with my book... even though it had been edited by a USF professor... I then saw what genre they themselves were writing in... it was erotica. At that point I had a good laugh!! I then looked at what they were selling... and it was pure garbage. Case closed.

You have to remember one thing about writing, half the fun is in the research. I don't write it myself because I can't afford the research and my girlfriend would kill me!

I agree.

However, I do enjoy the odd erotic scene in a full-length novel.
Passionate, tension-building romance is difficult to write.

WRONG! WRONG! IGNORANT and WRONG!!!!

I would agree that this genre seems to attract more than its share of talentless idiots under the impression that writing "smut" is an easy way to earn a fast buck, and they seem to be everywhere like the vast armies of the undead in the latest Hollywood zombiefest. But guess what? If one knows where to look, there is some genuinely brilliant writing with real literary substance and merit.

I challenge ANYONE to dismiss the stories in Susie Bright's "Bitten" as the work of talentless hacks. Some of those stories are as good as anything in any genre! I challenge anyone to read the work of Fulani, James Wood, Andre Santhomas, Elizabeta Brooke and so many other good dedicated writers of erotica and then HONESTLY call these people talentless.

Here is a list I put together:

http://www.amazon.com/Erotica-For-Your-Brain-Best-Written-Contemporary-Adult-Fiction/lm/R3OYSYRV9VXY5N/ref=cm_lm_byauthor_title_full

Ironic, that I just today set up a blog called Erotica For the Big Brain, which will endeavor to highlight the work of the serious, talented authors of literary erotica.

cheers

Read this author (andresanthomas) and then tell me she has no talent. I really do not like to read erotica but she can write.

Are you sure you are not confusing porn with erotica?

Wow, how can you say that this is not your thought but a fact? I think the fact that people buy erotica makes a different statement. There is a difference between erotica and porn. I write erotic romance and my reviews say that it is quite good.

Do you even know what erotica is? Erotic writing is sensual writing. It's all about the senses and being able to write passages with that much emotion is NOT easy! It takes talent and there are plenty of authors here that can and do achieve this.

The way to settle this would be to have one of the OP books compared to one of your books Cuz by a independent panel. To be scored on plot, etc, etc,, I would put my money on the erotica writer.
