For me, June is historically slow.
It was slow for me in 2010 and 2011.
However, I am one publisher, and your mileage may vary.

I spend some time here every day and this phenomenon is going on since March order so. And it is not a problem of June, it is a problem of more than 100 freebies every day. Why should you buy a novel even for 99 cent (unless it is Harry Potter oder so;-) Name me a reason and I'll buy you a beer ggg

I'm a guilty party. I have so many free Kindle books in my queue that it may seriously be YEARS before I actually buy a Kindle title again. I've got all the classics lined up, then I've got my favorite thriller writers like Battles who give away free books all the time. Plus I've got Amazon Prime -- that's another free book a month.

None of this bodes well for the indie author, including me. But that's life.

I think you're the first one who admits this openly here, chapeau;-) Let's drive one more nail into Amazon's coffin by letting drop this website http://ireaderreview.com (OUCH). I have their RSS feed in my Firefox and can see with one click a day what's for free. Even if I would download only half of what they pile up every day (and they don't even note everything), I would never be able to digest this stuff. But as a reader, I agree, this is paradise! I hope the net margin on the Kindle hardware is good enough to keep Amazon in the ebook battle;-)

I actually have a co-worker reading a copy of one of my books bought from Amazon in Kindle format in early June, yet my sales figures show zilch! So...I emailed a complaint. They say I haven't sold ANY copies this month! So...I PERSONALLY buy a copy of one of 11 novels I've Kindled, sent it as a gift to a friend. Got an email verifying sale and note deduction from my credit card for the sale. I STILL HAVE NO SALES IN REPORTS UNDER KINDLE!

Now I'm getting leery...and have printed a copy of the Officers and Directors of Amazon in an attempt to search out their email addresses. Something FISHY is going on!!

I finally gave in and gathered some old, I mean old, children's short stories and put them on as a collection to see if I get any kind of uplift. I know children's fiction is iffy, but I'm trying everything I can think of. Yes, since March there's been no marching. So frustrating, However, I put three on CreateSpace last month and have sold 8 this month. I'll take whatever I can get at this point.

Until all kindle authors realize that the free promo is killing all of us, we will keep seeing sales dwindle down to nothing. With tens of thousands of free books available at every minute of every day, what incentive does any one have to BUY a book!

Authors, STOP giving away your work. The authors that were with kindle before the free program sold thousands of books without having any listed for free. These freebies do nothing for you. You may see a few sales right after your promo ends, but in a couple of weeks you will be slipping back down as the readers move on to all the other free books coming out daily.

CLAP CLAP CLAP ... You are so right yet your plea will lead to nothing, I am afraid. There are hundred + new self-publishers, 'authors', coming up every month and their only chance to get their name out is to give away their stuff for free in the beginning. That's like with the ancient hydra. You convert one, seven new come creeping through the tunnel. The only winning party is Amazon, hoping that they have one or two gems for a three month exlusive period. The only chance to change this would be either Amazon seeing its revenue down considerably and/or the book industry applying pressure to them to stop that nonsense.

I would have thought the option to give a discount would be more successful than a free promo, for amazon and authors. More authors with successful books will stick around rather than exploring other avenues.

I don't think Amazon are stupid enough to solely rely on kindle sales, once you own a kindle why would you buy a new one if yours works fine? There will come a point where sales will be down and the only way they will continue to profit is through book sales. It's hardly like the kindle is a product that you must update to the latest version, such as an Iproduct.

But then again that's just my opinion.

It seems like Amazon is cracking down on the Indies and is going to become tougher with them.

If you are saying that sales are dying...one may assume that they are or were sometime alive...

My first book sold 3 copies in 2.5 years...

The Internet is full of copies of my book, some officially linked to Amazon and some not.
I have sent a threatenning mail...and a few removed it from their web site...

I know for fact that more than 3 books were sold.

My second book sold nothing...
It will be my last book here...

I was not expecting to be rich, but sales of a few hundred worldwide would be nice...

I can not explain it...but I feel that something is wrong...
