I really hate to bring this up, but I worked in a bank too.

First, they take your money and play the stock market with it.
Second, there is no giant piggy bank with the money in it to cover anyone's losses.
Third, your funds are guaranteed against loss by who? ---- the government -- this government that has to borrow money to survive.

At this point, how many of us do you think the government can cover in a crisis?

My grandmother put her inheritance in the bank just one day before the stock market crash in the 20's. she lost it all. Why didn't they give her money back? Because they didn't have it. They played the stock market with it.

You want to protect your money? Put it in a safe. Everything else is gambling.

Ever seen the classic 'It's A Wonderful Life' with Jimmy Stewart?

There was a news article today about a man who recently passed on. At the time of his death, he only had about $200.00 in his checking account. As they were cleaning out his garage to sell the house, they found $7,000,000.00 in gold bars and coins. Whoa! No one had any idea he was hoarding gold. That's a heck of a retirement fund.

Unfortunately, my grandmother didn't put her money in Jimmy Stewart's bank.

I am just pointing out that blind trust is not good either. We think nothing can go wrong, but it can. One nuclear explosion can destroy a power grid, the food rots, the grocery can't sell, the banks won't open and cars won't run.

Ever been through a run on a grocery store city wide? I have. People will fight over a can of olives, verbally and physically. They wiped out there whole savings just to have enough food.

I'm just say'n, it is unwise to have blind trust in our banking system.

To the rest of you, take it or leave, but don't make fun of me for pointing it out.

I increased my India prices to $199.00 in protest to the KDP requirement.

Do to my mothers teachings, we have some food stockpiled, a small amout of gasoline, lanterens with fuel, an outhouse, water from the pond, 8 cord of wood, and enough ammo to last a little while. And from the sounds of things it may not be so very long before we'll need it. And money or gold won't mean a damn thing. A box of .22 rounds will be worth more than an ounce of gold.

Update: www.amazon.com/kindlestoreindia

Here's the link. When the page first builds, the prices are in Rupees, but look quick because they begin to change to dollars almost immediately.
<<<<<<

To view your book as it's seen in India, you need to log out of your Amazon account completely, and then go to that page. If you are logged in, it will know that you are a U.S. customer and show the U.S. prices.

I have no doubt that the government will make good on the insurance. They will do this (and other things) by printing up money, even if they have to add a bunch of zeros and start printing it on cheap paper.

This is what every government has done when faced with the same situation, and I don't see any reason why we will be any different. (However, as a matter of national pride, we'll probably print our worthless money on high-quality paper, rather than the more cheap paper that is used by most countries in that situation.)

But coins will be made of such cheap, light metal they'll feel like they were baked on a cookie sheet.

But while you're at it, I'm sure you can think of other groups of "those people" that you refuse to sell to.

What has Liechtenstein ever done for me? I'll be darned if I'm going to let those people buy my books.

Yup, all @ $199.00 each for India. If they get snarky or change royalty levels on other markets I'll unpublish on Amazon. Jeff doesn't own the independant book market, I owe him nothing.
