Dear Eileen,

Contact KDP support. They will give you guidance.

We don't know the minutiae of the contest's rules, like you, we are just participants.

Blessings and good luck to us.

Hi everybody,

I'd also like to submit one of my books, too, but I have never done so because I don't know how. Any pointers? All mine are already published and KDP for some time. Or do I need an new title? Or republish an existing one?

Cheers,

James

Dear James,

It has nothing to do with that. In actual fact, all entries must be enrolled in KDP.

The main criteria for submission are:

1. It has to be new, in other words, it can't be previously published. It can't be recycled.

2. It has to have a minimum of 5,000 words. There is no upper limit.

3. It has to be available as an e-book AND in print.

4. Put in the necessary phrase in the metadata.

Hi James,

My first reply to your post was modded, so here's another version:

1. All entries must be KDP-enrolled.
2. All entries must be new. In other words, not previously published in any form or shape.
3. All entries must be available in e-book and print versions.
4. The correct phrase must be included in the metadata.

If you Google Amazon.co.uk:StorytellerCompetition, you can get all the information.

Blessings,

Angelin

Yes, but that's a standard rule in any writing contest. Writer's Digest has an annual contest. These requirements are given in the "how to enter" information: must be original, unpublished and unproduced, not accepted by any other publisher or producer at the time of submission." Many writing contests just say "no published authors may submit entries."

I'm not sure about the 'print' rule.
I've read it over and over in the TOS and FAQ and it states that it must be 'available' for print, not 'in print'.
Only one entry is permitted and it has to be in KDP and enrolled in Select.
I take this to mean that you only do the eBook but that the winning entry will then be made into a print book and it must be available for that.
If anyone knows better I'd be happy to stand corrected but it doesn't actually state that we have to do it as an eBook and paperback :)

I am 100% certain of the print rule. I attached a link but got modded. Please Google Amazon.co.uk:StorytellingCompetition and all the information are in there.

With any luck, the link will eventually appear.

I was confused by the post that showed up just before I posted mine so I checked the website for the Storyteller Contest, and apparently you enter the contest by enrolling your book in KDP and putting a specific phrase in the keywords. However, they do say the entries need to be "previously unpublished."

As I said, I've read it over and over, it doesn't say specifically that we must do it in print.

'make it available for sale as an eBook and in print exclusively through Amazon'

as in it can't be anywhere else, it must only be available for Amazon.

Hi,

This is a direct quote from the website, (cut and paste).

The Kindle Storyteller prize is open to submissions of new English Language books from all authors and genres. Titles must be previously unpublished, a minimum of 5,000 words with no upper word limit and be available as an eBook and in print.

My understanding is that the entry must be available in both formats.

What do you guys think?

Blessings,

Angelin

The invite letter specifically asks if you have recently published--and gives a start date of Feb 20, 2017. The way I read the invite and the FAQ, it simply has to be published thru KDP and entered in KDP Select between Feb 20 and May 19.
