Narrowed down to three finalists, would LOVE more opinions on final selection of new cover. Please let me know which you vote for: Left, Middle, or Right. https://dmchappellblog.wordpress.com/blog/ P.S. - This book is Sci-fi/Fantasy genre and Ersha is male.

ALSO, would love some feedback on back cover copy. I am not sure if this is punchy enough, long enough, or even makes sense for that matter. Anyone's two cents is appreciated!

THANK YOU!

The creature known as Ersha, the first and most powerful Wezosard, thought he had succeeded in his plans to remove the races from Zafora using a plague. He was wrong.

With no time to spare the Elders of the races had sent out a medallion which brought back a Liberator. She—with the help of her friends—had not only succeeded in stopping him, by curing the plague, but had been able to return home to her planet Earth.

If she thought she was done with Zafora, she was sorely mistaken. Ersha will not stop until he gets his revenge, rules the planet, and is known only as Lord Ersha.

Your cover art looks threating, as if the image has only one mission; to drag somebody to hell. Being such, I think the type is too thin, and too bright for the look you're going for. It doesn't project the seriousness that your art work does. Use a bolder heavier more sinister font style. Tone down the bright white of your type to a hue similar to the color scheme of your background. Enlarge the title, (stacking the words) there's too much dead space between it, and your author's name. The cover will look better, and be taken much more seriously making these changes.

Thank you so much for the input. I have posted another version, with what I hope are successful updates using the suggestions you made. Can you tell me if this one is better? https://dmchappellblog.wordpress.com/blog/

I like the second one, but I would lower the words so they weren't across the face. Even though there is no face. Just my opinion.

The second one looks slasher film scary. The third one looks more elegant, like gothic horror scary. I like the size of the author's name in the second, but if it was me I would center it.

Yeaaahhh-....no. I'd suggest using something like a 'Charlesworth' font, {inject some darkness with the font} bring your author name out of the bottom corner, and make it part of the title like the top selling authors do. This should address the dead space I mentioned in my first post.

If you decide to bring the title and author name together, keep the same font style you have for the author name, not as heavy as the title. The difference in type will create a nice separation, and viewers will identify the title from author name easily. Optional: you could even maybe, put a nice light subtle decorative medallion or line as point of separation between title and author name.

Thanks for the additional input. Having a hard time finding a font that is free for commercial use that is similar to Charlesworth (which I can only find free licensed for personal use) I will keep looking.

I like it but I don’t think you’ve quite hit on the right font yet, the one you have on your revisions, makes me think horror rather than fantasy sci/fi.

Maybe try Metamorphous or Devinne Swash? I believe these are both free for commercial use on font space – or go to font space and search for fantasy fonts. A lot of them are for personal use but they have some them here and there that are commercial.

Also, I agree with D.E. Jackson. I would try moving the title below the “face”. I think the empty face will capture attention and you don’t want to obscure that. Of course than you need to play with where you put your name either putting it with the title or somewhere else.

These are just suggestions for things to try and see how they look.

Thank you for the info on the font! Please view the latest and greatest and let me know your thoughts. Not sure if the color blends in too much with the background. Should I go red on font and blue on line?

Upload a copy of your cover when you make your adjustments. I'm sure it'll be nice. :)

yesssssss! I love what you did with the cover with the red line dividing the title and your author name. The font looks great!!! I did not check on my last post to see if you had made any changes; my bad. That's what I was getting at, it looks more dramatic. I'm glad you took the advice given to move the title down a bit, it makes a good impact. Now you tell me, does it look better to you then your initial cover?

Yes, I think it does. Now I just have to figure out how to get that font to load into InDesign when I go to create my cover. Not sure how to upload a font. Thank you for all your help!

You're so welcome, I appreciate your openness to a critical eye. It's rare to have someone on this site willing to absorb suggestions, and immediately run with them in real time. You listened, and your book is all the better for it. The cover is perfectly balanced, the type is AWESOME, and you're a good sport. - Good Luck.
