Hi,
I have already published a book created using Textbook creator. Since the accessibility is only for a limited number of devices, I would like to use another tool to publish the book. I tried children's book creator and Manga, but of no avail. Is there any other way to accomplish this task.

I have never published a fixed-format book, perhaps because my favorite phone is an iPhone 4 with a very small screen. Reflowable books IMHO are the only way to go.

(I make an exception for kids' books. Nobody is going to WANT to read them on a four-inch smartphone.)

Thank you for the reply. The issue is that I cannot replace it with a reflowable version. For that matter, not even with a fixed format layout.

Unpublish the book. Start over, and do reflowable text this time. To do so, don't use any Textbook Creator or the like templates, just insert your images into a Word file and upload that and see how it looks. Preview carefully. It won't look like a textbook, but it will be readable just fine on any device.

The reason I say start over with a brand new ebook is because I believe that if you've ever uploaded a fixed-format content, the bots won't let you replace it with a reflowable content.

Dhanesh:

you said you tried "Kindle Kids Creator," which says to me that you're trying to publish an illustrated book for children, what we used to call a Kid's picture book. Is that right? Because, if it is, then you have to publish it as a fixed-layout ebook--period. That means a diminished buying demographic, because not all devices support fixed layout.

There's no good way to recreate a child's illustrated book in reflowable. Please--believe that I know what I'm talking about.

Now, if you mean that you weren't publishing a book that needs fixed-layout, then figure out how to make a reflowable Ebook. There aren't any "point and click" reflowable ebook makers (at least, not yet), so you'll have to do that the hard way.

Does that help?

Why can't you replace it? One just uploads the new version on top of the old one, and in a minute or two the old one is replaced.

(Textbook Creator IS fixed format. It is also limited in readership, as Hitch says about the kids' book template, and you can't sell it on other stores besides Amazon.)

@cdalebrittain It's obviously an option. But I have published in KDP Select. Could it make things difficult for me?

As I said, you probably need to unpublish the original version and make a brand new reflowable book.

You can unpublish to your heart's delight even though you're in Select. Since the words (content) of the new book you'll be creating will be the same, be sure to put it in Select too. The only time people get into troubling unpublishing a Select title is when they then sneakily try to republish the book on other platforms, but that's not what is happening here. Use the Contact link at lower right to tell KDP what you're doing. Good luck!

Dhanesh:

OK, now, I'm officially confused. (As opposed to unofficially confused, which is my normal state.) If it's not a kids' book, why did you try Kids' Book Creator, and why have you used all these fixed-layout ebook-making tools?

Unpublish the fixed-layout ebook. Make a new, reflowable eBook, and upload it. If you can't upload a reflowable over a (former) fixed-layout, what the hell. Just open up a new book on the bookshelf, and publish the new one. If you haven't sold any copies of the old one, no one will ever notice, least of all Amazon.

Does that help at all? Honestly, I'm still trying to figure out what you were doing with FXL tools, but...I guess we'll never know. :-)

Banging your head against a brick wall doesn't really feel all that different from banging your head against a cinder block wall, and the concussions will be identical. Similarly, using one fixed format tool is not going to result in a different product from what you get with another fixed format tool. Not only are you wasting your time, you're putting out a product you don't seem to like. If you don't, chances are your customers won't either.

Generally speaking, if there is not a valid and incontrovertible reason for making your book in a fixed format, don't do it. If you can't format your e-book as reflowable, then you're just stuck, chum, and you have to live with the limitations of fixed format.

If you want to create a reflowable e-book, you have to unpublish what you've done. Since you cannot upload a reflowable e-book over a fixed format e-book (apples and oranges, mate) you have to upload it as a completely new book, with a different AISN. Live and learn.
