One week ago I reformatted and repriced the Paperback version of my Kindle book. On my dashboard, the new lower price shows up. But when you view the page in the Kindle Store, it still lists the old price. I thought maybe the newly formatted version somehow was published separately and not linked to the original eBook. But No: it's just that the old higher price is all you see in the Kindle Store. Is it not possible to change the price of the paperback version after it's been released? Or how does this get fixed?

When you changed the price, did you follow thru and click on PUBLISH?

Yes, thanks. Hours after I hit the Publish button, I received a confirmation email from Amazon:

Congratulations, the paperback edition of your book "Passion and Purpose: The Rise and Fall of Al Gansee" is live in the Amazon Store. It is available* for readers to purchase here. If you have republished your book, your changes are now live.

*Some marketplaces may take 3-5 business days to show your paperback as in stock. Please note that your paperback’s product description may take 24-48 hours to appear on its Amazon detail page and links to its Kindle eBook version may take up to 48 hours. If you are resubmitting your content file or updating your book details, the changes should display within the next 24-48 hours.

Thank you for publishing with Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP).

Best regards,
The Kindle Direct Publishing Team

But of course, all of those deadlines have well since passed.

KDP Print Beta was rolled out at the end of September last year. The process was buggy, and it seems to remain so to this day. The quality of the books that actually go on sale is rather low, as you can see by doing a search on Amazon for Independently published

Its sole advantage is that the author-publisher gets to see his or her paperback sales on the same page as the Kindle sales. But really, how big an advantage is that? How many seconds does it take, really, to check one's sales on Createspace--ten seconds, thirty seconds?

In exchange, you get that buggy publishing process, no physical proof copy, no discounted author copies for gift or resale, and no distribution to Barnes & Noble or to brick-and-mortar bookstores. (Most small bookstores will, as a favor to a customer and perhaps a small surcharge, order a Createspace or IngramSpark paperback.) If you don't live in the US, the proof copy and author's copies won't be as attractive, because of high shipping costs, but still....

My advice is to stick with CreateSpace with its excellent cover wizard, helpful community forum, and direct-to-author discounted sales. (If you don't live in the US, the physical proof copy and discounted author copies will be less attractive to you.)

Good luck! -- NJ

Hi there,

Did the same: lowered the price of my paperback and have waited 8 days now (but only six of them "business days"). A response I got from support said that it should take 3-5 business days MAXIMUM, that sometimes the changes show up in only hours. I asked, so why is this taking so much time? And what's with "business days" anyway? Doesn't Amazon work on the weekend? I was assured that Amazon DOES work on the weekends. Ha. There is an overabundance of cordiality in these emails, but not a lot of explanation of what the hold up is.

My question: do you think it's because I'm lowering the price? Would they be speedier if I were raising the price?

I don't know whether to laugh or weep. USE CREATESPACE.

(Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition. Don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook.)
