Thanks ! :-)

It worked, and now we know the NAME of the e-mail to which they replied.

The problem is that she used the URL I sent her (so that she could look into the account), and she has changed some details (Initials etc) and created a NEW account with the same name !

The NEW account does NOT contain the 7 books that I uploaded for her, and I cannot find the earlier account, although the books are still on Amazon (Google Amazon/books/Kulalabuloo)

Any more ideas ???? :-)

Thanks again !

You need to log out of the false account, clear all cache and cookies, and then request a new password to the original account.

Failing that, ask KDP support if they will send a password reset link to that email.

Thanks Emily,

I have already tried that, but no joy.. ... The trouble is that the second Amazon/Kindle account is a valid account, even though it has the same NAME (e-mail addy) as the FIRST one.

Changing password just affects the SECOND account, but makes no difference to the FIRST, which is the one which has Sue's books loaded on it. (Ws still don't know the password to the FIRST account, but = presumably ? - will be able to 'reset' that if we can get rid of the (default) second account ?

These electric boes are too confusing for an old codger like me ! :-)

You sent her the url. Therefore you should still have, in your email "sent" folder, the message with the url. Go there.

It will ask you to log in. If you still can't remember the password, try "forgot password" from right there, on the correct Bookshelf page.

They'll send a new password. Try it. See if it works. If so, write everything down!

If not, just keep requesting help from KDP. Reply to messages rather than starting a new thread. Good luck!

Thanks, friend ! We are both dozy 'seniors'. :-)

I had her 'dashboard' on my computer (showing the books), but couldn't edit them because neither of us could remember the password !

We tried changing the password through the 'password help' facility, but now I can't even SEE the books on the 'Dashboard', which says that more author details are required, and that books will reflect on that dashboard when she uploads one Where have the 7 books from the last dashboard gone ? ... They are still visible on Amazon/Kindle. (Google 'Kulalabuloo')

Go to your browser. Under tools you will see options. You will see passwords. Open it to show passwords. Then be sure to close it.

And be SURE not to let the browser fill in a password for you. Wipe out anything it fills and enter the password manually, or through cut-and-paste. You need to do this correctly at least once for the browser to pick up the correct password.

CD Brittain,

When I activate that URL, it takes me to the NEW account that Sue set up, because it is under the same name as the old one.

We made a ghastly mistake, but Amazon should not ALLOW two different accounts to be set up, using the SAME name, but with different 'passwords' !

I'm waiting to hear what Amazon will say, but what do you think would happen if I DELETED the NEW account - with the password I know ?

Would it leave the OLD account (whose password I do NOT know) but that I could then discover through the 'forgot password/change password' facility ?

OR WOULD IT WIPE OUT BOTH ACCOUNTS (including the one with the seven books in it) ???

Thanks for your time and help ! :-)

It's actually hard to delete an account. You have to ask Amazon to do it. So don't try that, or at least not now.

See if you can keep getting your case escalated through replying politely but persistently to the emails you get from KDP. Sure sounds like a mess! Good luck!

Thanks, JM !

I think that 'auto-filling' of passwords has been the main cause of our problem !

I am learning ...... slowly !

If you cannot figure out how to sign into the original account, you will need Amazon staff to send a password reset link to the original email.
