Why am I only receiving 30% royalties when I made my story $2.99USD so that I could select 70% royalties? I selected it when choosing price. What is happening? I sold 4 copies today...I should have more than $4.00 ! Thank you.

The 70% royalty is not solely dependent on the store in which the sale was made (such as .com) but rather the country of the purchaser. Some countries are 35% no matter what and many of those countries do not have a dedicated store so they have to use the .com store. In these cases, if the purchase was made from outside the US but via the .com store you will receive only a 35% royalty.

Alternatively, sales from today may show but not record royalties until the payments clear which can take 1-2 days in some cases. This could also be the reason that your royalties are not adding up.

I too do not understand the royalties payments.

I have my ebook for sale for £4.99 yet only receive £2.09? I mean...really?

You really feel guilty for charging this amount for an ebook but then if you don't charge that, you don't get hardly anything for all the work that goes into it.

Not to mention the amount of time in editing on the paperback! I really do feel the royalties should be a bit more explainable.

Royalties are pretty straight forwad, you make either 70% minus distribution cost or 35%, depending on the locale of the purchaser. It's explained fairly well at

As for your £2.09 per book value, for an ebook this is not a bad royalty at all. Most traditional publishers would be paying you less than £0.50 per book if it were selling for £4.99.
