Am beside myself trying to understand why my editing page purports a link to find my kindle email adress for moving my current mobi file to my default kindle device, then shunts me to the "manage my content" or my "Manage my kindle" content page-neither of which offers up my Kindle email address like the link says it should. There are no links to it or navigation path offered.

Hi Edward,

Your kindle e-mail address is found under the Devices section of 'manage your content and devices'. On that page your devices will show as a list or as pictures. If pictures you have to either point at the one you want or click on it once, and a box will appear showing your e-mail address. If a list, then click on the ellipsis to the left and it will show up.

One thing to note is that you have to send the e-mail from the account you log into Amazon with. It won't accept emails from anywhere else.

If you still can't find it, try sending it to that same email account, only replace the @yahoo.com or @gmail.com with @kindle .com. That's what they usually use for the default device. If you have multiple devices, each will have its own address, and you'll need to figure out which is the default.

Good luck. J

Really? I didn't know that!

@OP: note that you can change the address to one that easier to remember. I use variations of notjohnfire@kindle.com, notjohnphone@kindle.com, etc.

(Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition. Don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook.)

Yes, it's true.

I sent the mobi version of my latest (unpublished) book to myself on Monday, and forgot the golden rule.

Amazon kindly sent me an e-mail saying "Oi! Sort yourself out!" Or words to that effect.... :)

Best wishes. J

While the default email address that the device can receive from is set to your amazon account email, additional email addresses can be added to the safe sender list. On the Content and Devices page, under the Settings tab, there is a section called "Approved Personal Document E-mail List" where you can add any email account to the receiving list. Adding all your basic accounts will stop you from getting flagged in the future.

Hi there,

I noticed that a little while ago, but when I tried to use it, it wouldn't actually work for me. Every time I try and put in the additional e-mail address, it instantly flags up a message that says 'Invalid address. Please use only letters, numbers, dashes, underscores, or periods.' I'd only got as far as putting in the first letter!

I just checked it again after I saw your message, as I wondered if it had been fixed, but I'm still getting the same message.

I assumed that it might be because you have to delete the original e-mail before it'll let you add a new one, but if you're saying you've already added multiple, then obviously that's not it.

I'm not sure if others are having the same problem I am, or whether I'm just 'special'.

As I'd assumed I had to just choose one, the one I've got is still my first choice, so I'm more than happy to stick with that. I just have to keep remembering which one to use.

Best wishes. J

If you finish typing a valid email address the message should go away and let you click the add button. I have 3 authorized on my account and just added another as a test without issue.

That has got to be the dumbest way of doing it I've ever come across!

With my natural (British) aversion to being told off for doing things I shouldn't, every time it's flashed that damn stupid message in red, I've stopped typing, as I thought the blasted thing was broken! Grrr! How ridiculous! I even checked my keyboard was working Ok by typing it out in a word doc so I could see it properly!

Thanks for the heads up. I doubt I was the only one who fell for that!

Best wishes. J

Julia, it is your computer that is tripping you up. It has nothing to do with Amazon or the KDP. If you don't want autofill for email addresses, change the settings in your email client or web browser.

Hi Notjohn,

Thanks for the advice, but that wasn't the problem. The message came up the second I typed in a single letter. The box wasn't being auto-populated in the same way as it would when I was sending an e-mail on yahoo for example. Just one letter at a time, as I typed. (Ironically, I think if I'd simply pasted the address in, it would probably have worked!)

I literally typed in one single letter and got a big red error message saying that I should only use letters or symbols, so I stopped typing because I thought something was wrong. Once I followed our new friend's advice and kept typing the rest of the e-mail address, as soon as I typed in the very last letter of .com, the error message disappeared and the address was authorised.

If the message had simply shown up as a 'tip', I wouldn't have worried. But the big red exclamation mark, making me think I was doing something wrong was enough to stop me in my tracks.

Thankfully, it's sorted now, but it could have been resolved ages ago if I'd known what the issue was. Aah well!

Thanks to you both.

Best wishes. J

It's a rather poor error reporting system, flagging an issue before giving you the chance to actually finish. I'm sure you are not the first to have this happen.
