You can upload manuscript files up to 650MB. KDP can convert Word doc and docx files, MOBI, Epub, HTML, and PDF files up to that size. If you submit a larger file, it will take much longer to convert and may fail completely, so it's best to stay below this limit. With that in mind, we've put together some suggestions for how to reduce your file size.
Below are some tips for decreasing the size of your files and ensuring a smooth trip through the KDP conversion process.

Images
The largest element of almost any Kindle book will be the image content. Inside your book file, the Kindle book format supports JPEG and GIF images. Images in other formats that KDP accepts (such as BMP or PNG), or that exceed this file size requirement, will be automatically recompressed as JPEG files during the conversion process. To create the best final version of your book, you'll need the highest-definition images you can deliver, with a final file under 650MB.
If you have inserted images into your book in BMP or PNG format, the easiest way to decrease the size of your file is to save your images in JPEG format, then reinsert them into your book.

Textbooks
Adding large numbers of video and audio files to a book file can dramatically increase its file size. At this time, KDP supports files of 650 megabytes or less, and 8,000 pages or fewer. If you attempt to upload a file larger than this, it will not convert. If your file is larger than 650 megabytes, please consider reducing the amount of audio and video content in your book, or publishing the book as multiple volumes with less content in each individual file.
