You can update your ISBN if your book is still in draft. This article explains how to view your ISBN on KDP and what to do if you need to make changes.

View your ISBN

There are two ways to view your ISBN information:

1. If your book is published and available on Amazon, you can view the ISBN details on your book's product page. Note: You can access your book's product page from the KDP Bookshelf by clicking View on Amazon under the book you want to see.
2. To view your book’s ISBN details from KDP, go the Content tab in your book’s setup. Scroll to the ISBN section.

Change your ISBN

ISBNs cannot be changed if your book is published. If you need to update the book’s ISBN or other details, such as title or author name, you’ll have to unpublish the book and then publish a new edition (creating a book the same way you did the first time). The new edition should use the updated details.

To change the ISBN for a book that's never been published:

1. Go to your KDP Bookshelf.
2. Click the ellipsis button ("...") next to the book you want to update.
3. Select Edit [Book] Content.
4. In the ISBN section, update the relevant details. Tip: If you want to remove your own ISBN and use on another book, update the ISBN option to the Get a free KDP ISBN option.
5. Hit Save and continue.

Note: If you’re using your own ISBN and updated the book details there, it’ll take 5 business days for KDP to register those changes. After those 5 business days, you can update your book on KDP. This will avoid any errors between our system and the ISBN agency’s.
