Featured Offer Eligibility for Third-Party Sellers
Featured Offer Eligibility for Third-Party Sellers
Amazon has listed and sold books, both new and used, from third-party sellers for many years, and third-party sellers have been allowed to compete for the Featured Offer across categories for many years. This policy has been extended to include physical books in new condition sold on Amazon, including KDP paperback and hardcover books. This means it is possible for the winning merchant of a KDP print book to be a third-party seller instead of Amazon.
Royalties on Amazon sales of KDP books to third-party sellers
When a new copy of your KDP paperback or hardcover book is printed to fulfill a third-party seller’s order through Amazon, you'll receive royalties at the rate that corresponds to the Amazon distribution option.
Virtual inventory
Third-party sellers purchase KDP titles from Amazon to resell to their customers, and some use virtual inventory when listing KDP titles. That means the retailer might not have copies on hand when listing it for sale, but can still designate it as “in stock” because it’s procurable through Amazon.
Amazon is not directly affiliated with these sellers, and we don't control certain aspects of their Amazon product listing and shipping terms.

How we define the condition of books
The terms new, used, etc. are referenced by sellers to describe the condition of their products to help customers make buying decisions. If a book meets Amazon’s product condition guidelines, it may be listed in “new” condition even if it is being resold by someone other than the original author or publisher.

How we determine Buy Box eligibility for sellers
Featured Offer eligible sellers are professional sellers who have met performance-based requirements. Sellers must maintain their performance levels in order to retain the status of Featured Offer eligible. Learn more about the criteria.
We take this policy seriously and continuously verify and monitor all seller accounts. Only books in new condition are eligible to win the Buy Box, and we move quickly to address any violations.
