Troubleshoot Identity Verification Errors

If identity verification is required for your account, you will see a banner stating “Identity verification required” when you sign in to your KDP account. This page provides information to identify common verification errors and fix them.

Before you verify your identity

The name and country in the Your Identity section on your account must match the name and country of your government-issued ID. If they do not match, update your account details before verifying your identity. For example, if your ID was issued by Canada but you currently reside in Mexico, enter your Canada address into the ID address field in the Your Identity section.

This process only applies to verifying your identity. Your tax information should reflect the information reported on tax forms and your bank information in the Getting Paid section should match what's on your bank account.

Important: If you are under 18 (or under the age of majority where you reside), you may use KDP only with involvement of a parent or guardian. A parent or guardian must update the Your Identity section on the KDP account using their information and submit their ID.

You need to use an ID that matches your KDP registered address.

The country in the Your Identity section of your KDP account must match the country on your government-issued ID. If it does not, update your account before you verify your identity. For example, if the country in the Your Identity section on your KDP account is Mexico but your government-issued ID is from Canada, you'll receive this error.

Name Mismatch - You'll need to use an ID that matches {your name}.

The name in the Your Identity section of your KDP account must exactly match the name on your ID, including the written language. If it does not, update your name in your account before you verify your identity.

You chose to use a {ID Type} as an ID. Make sure you chose the right ID type and try again.

Select the correct ID type based on the ID you are submitting. For example, if you select a passport, but then take a photo of a driver’s license, you’ll receive this error.

You need to provide an unexpired ID to verify your identity.

Use a different ID that is not expired and try again.

Make sure the ID is in focus and the barcode is visible.

Your ID photo should display the whole ID, including the barcode. If you need help taking a photo of your ID, go to Taking photos of your ID. If you continue to have issues with the photo of your ID (e.g., glare or blurry results), sometimes it’s easier to use a different ID. Go to this Help article for Accepted IDs for identity verification.

Back of ID photo required.

Make sure to take a photo of both the front and back of the ID before you try again.
