When will I get my tax forms?

  • U.S. publishers. We issue Form 1099-MISC on or before January 31 each year (or the following business day if January 31 falls on a weekend or legal holiday).
  • Non-U.S. publishers. We issue Form 1042-S on or before March 15 each year (or the following business day if March 15 falls on a weekend or legal holiday).

How do I get my forms?

You can download your tax forms from your KDP account or taxcentral.amazon.com. In some cases, such as if you live outside the United States or if you have different tax statuses between accounts, we'll issue multiple forms. We'll email you once they're available. If you chose paper delivery, we'll mail the forms to the address you entered in your tax profile. Please allow up to two weeks for delivery.

Regardless of your delivery preference, you can access your tax forms online after they're available. To securely download your available forms from KDP:

  1. Sign in to KDP and click Your Account at the top of the page.
  2. Follow the instructions for two-step verification.
  3. Go to Tax Information.
  4. Select Update/Review Tax Profile.
  5. Find your available tax forms in the Tax statements section.
  6. Under Tax form, click Download for the form you need.

You can also go directly to Amazon Tax Central to securely download your available forms. Amazon Tax Central is a standalone site that allows you to download forms from all Amazon businesses in one place:
  1. Go to taxcentral.amazon.com.
  2. Use your KDP account sign-in and password.
  3. Find your available tax forms in the Tax statements section.
  4. Under Tax form, click Download for the form you need.

Note: From the tax dashboard, under Your to-do list and alerts, you may also find a download link for your most recent tax form.

I'm having issues accessing the forms.

If you're having issues opening the PDF, you may need to update Adobe Reader. If you're getting an error message from our system, try refreshing your screen, wait an hour, and try again. You can also try using a different browser.

Why didn't I get a tax form?

If you don't have any tax forms, or they aren't available yet, see common reasons why below:

  • The forms haven't been made available or delivered yet.
    • U.S. publishers. We issue IRS Form 1099-MISC on or before January 31 each year (or the following business day if January 31 falls on a weekend or legal holiday).
    • Non-U.S. publishers. We issue IRS Form 1042-S on or before March 15 each year (or the following business day if March 15 falls on a weekend or legal holiday).
    • If you choose paper delivery, forms will be mailed to the address which you provided when you submitted your tax profile. Depending on where you live, forms can take up to two weeks to arrive.

  • The royalty payments threshold wasn't met.
    • U.S. publishers. If you exceeded the $10 global royalty payment threshold across all Amazon businesses, your IRS Form 1099-MISC will be issued on or before January 31 (or the following business day if January 31 falls on a weekend or legal holiday).
    • Non-U.S. publishers. If you exceeded the $0.49 global royalty payment threshold across all Amazon businesses, your IRS Form 1042-S will be issued on or before March 15 (or the following business day if March 15 falls on a weekend or legal holiday).

  • Your account is exempt from reporting based upon your tax profile inputs. This commonly applies to Trusts/Estates, tax-exempt organizations, or limited liability companies.

I think the amount on my forms is wrong.

Tax forms show payments made, not royalties earned. To verify your IRS Form 1099-MISC or IRS Form 1042-S, compare it to your Payment Report. Other KDP reports on royalties reflect earnings, not payments you received, so they won't match your form.

KDP pays royalties monthly, approximately 60 days after the end of the month in which the royalties are earned. This means payments for royalties earned in November and December always appear on the following year's IRS form. Find what's included on your tax form using the table below.

Tax form year When you earned royalties When you received payment
2025 Nov 2024 – Oct 2025 Jan – Dec 2025
2026 Nov 2025 – Oct 2026 Jan – Dec 2026
2027 Nov 2026 – Oct 2027 Jan – Dec 2027

The address is wrong on my form.

Forms display the address you entered at the time you completed your tax profile. If you updated the address in your KDP account, please update your tax profile so your address is correct for next year. You don't need an up-to-date address on your tax form to use it, so we recommend using the paperless form this year.

Do I have to pay taxes on what I earned from selling my KDP books?

Amazon can't provide tax advice. Please consult a tax adviser or www.irs.gov if you have questions about how to use this information. We report any royalties paid from January 1 through December 31 on either Form 1099-MISC to U.S. publishers or Form 1042-S to non-U.S. publishers.

  • U.S. publishers. If you exceeded the $10 global royalty payment threshold across all Amazon businesses, you will be subject to IRS Form 1099-MISC reporting. Payments to corporations, including limited liability companies (LLCs) that are treated as C- or S- Corporations, and certain tax-exempt organizations are not reportable on Form 1099-MISC.
  • Non-U.S. publishers. If you exceeded the $0.49 global royalty payment threshold across all Amazon businesses, your IRS Form 1042-S will be issued on or before March 15 (or the following business day if March 15 falls on a weekend or legal holiday). This form is an informational statement that the U.S. taxing authority (called the "Internal Revenue Service" or "IRS") requires Amazon to provide. The form is sent to non-U.S. publishers who received U.S.-sourced income during the previous calendar year. The amount in Box 2 shows payments received from sales (in USD) from the United States. Box 7 represents any associated U.S. tax withheld from these payments, also in USD. If you have questions, please consult a tax advisor or www.irs.gov.

How do I update my delivery preference?

  1. Sign in to KDP and click Your Account at the top of the page.
  2. Follow the instructions for two-step verification.
  3. Go to Tax Information
  4. Select Update/Review Tax Profile.
  5. Navigate through the questions.
  6. After you click Submit Form, select Change Delivery Preference.
  7. Choose your delivery preference.

Changes to delivery preference made after December 31 won't take effect until the next filing year. If you keep the paperless option as your delivery preference, we will not mail physical copies of your tax forms. You will need to download the tax forms from your KDP account or taxcentral.amazon.com.

Note: the option to download tax forms began for 2015 year-end forms (prior years currently not included).
