Contents

When will I get my tax forms?

  • U.S. publishers. We issue Form 1099-MISC on or before January 31 each year (or the following business day if January 31 falls on a weekend or legal holiday).
  • Non-U.S. publishers. We issue Form 1042-S on or before March 15 each year.

How do I get my forms?

You can download your tax forms from your KDP account. We'll email you once they're are available. If you chose paper delivery, we'll also mail the forms to the address you entered during the tax interview. Please allow up to two weeks for delivery.

Regardless of your delivery preference, you can access your tax forms online once they're available. To securely download your available forms:

  1. Sign in to KDP and click Your Account at the top of the page.
  2. Under My Account, click Tax Information
  3. Click View/Update Tax Information.
  4. Scroll down to the "Year-end tax forms" section.
  5. Click Find Forms
  6. Click Download

I'm having issues accessing the forms.

If you're having issues opening the PDF, you may need to update Adobe Reader. If you're getting an error message from our system, try refreshing your screen, wait an hour, and try again. You can also try using a different browser.

Why didn’t I get a tax form?

If you don't have any tax forms, or they aren’t available yet, you'll see a message explaining why when you click Find Forms in your KDP account. Common reasons are:

  • The forms haven't been made available or delivered yet:
    • U.S. publishers. We issue IRS Form 1099-MISC on or before January 31 each year.
    • Non-U.S. publishers. We issue IRS Form 1042-S on or before March 15 each year.
    • If you choose paper delivery, forms will be mailed to the address which you provided when you submitted your Tax Interview. Forms will be sent on or before January 31 (U.S. publishers) or on or before March 15 (non-U.S. publishers). Depending on where you live, forms can take up to two weeks to arrive.

  • The royalty payments threshold wasn't met.
    • U.S. publishers. If you exceeded the $10 global royalty payment threshold across all Amazon businesses, your IRS Form 1099-MISC will be issued on or before January 31.
    • Non-U.S. publishers. If you exceeded the $0.49 global royalty payment threshold across all Amazon businesses, your IRS Form 1042-S will be issued on or before March 15.

  • Your account is exempt from reporting based upon your interview inputs. This commonly applies to Trusts/Estates, tax-exempt organizations, or limited liability companies.

I think the amount on my forms is wrong.

Tax forms show payments made, not royalties earned. KDP pays royalties monthly, approximately 60 days after the end of the month in which the royalties are earned. That means payments for royalties earned in November and December 2018 won’t be on your 2018 form. Payments for royalties earned in November and December 2017 will be on your 2018 form.

The address is wrong on my form.

Forms display the address you entered at the time you completed the Tax Interview. If you updated the address in your KDP account, please retake the interview so your address is correct for next year. You don't need an up-to-date address on your tax form to use it, so we recommend using the paperless form this year.

What about my CreateSpace tax information?

  • U.S. publishers. In most cases, U.S. publishers will have combined payments for all legal entities for all KDP and CreateSpace. That means you'll receive one form, which you can download from your KDP account by following these instructions.

In some cases, such as if you live outside the U.S., or your tax status was different between KDP and CreateSpace, we'll issue multiple forms, and your CreateSpace tax forms will be available in Tax Central:

    1. Sign in to Tax Central using your CreateSpace email address. (If you haven't used your CreateSpace email address on Amazon, click Create your Amazon account and follow the instructions.)
    2. Under "CreateSpace," click View/Edit.
    3. Scroll to the "Year-end tax forms" section.
    4. Click the Find Forms button.
    5. Click Download.

  • Non-U.S. publishers. We'll issue Form 1042-S by March 15. You can access your forms in Tax Central:

    1. Go to Tax Central.
    2. Use your KDP account sign-in and password.
    3. Click the View/Edit button.
    4. Click the Find Forms button.
    5. Click Download.

I have multiple Amazon businesses. How do I get all my forms?

Taxcentral.amazon.com is a standalone site that allows any independent publisher to download forms from all businesses in one place. Once you sign in to your Tax Central account, you'll see tax forms for all businesses:

  1. Go to Tax Central.
  2. Use your KDP account sign-in and password.
  3. Click the View/Edit button.
  4. Click the Find Forms button.
  5. Click Download.

Do I have pay taxes on what I earned from selling my KDP books?

Amazon can't provide tax advice. Please consult a tax adviser or www.irs.gov if you have questions about how to use this information. We report any royalties paid from January 1, 2018, through December 31, 2018, on either Form 1099-MISC to U.S. publishers or Form 1042-S to non-U.S. publishers.

  • U.S. publishers. If you exceeded the $10 global royalty payment threshold across all Amazon businesses, you will be subject to IRS Form 1099-MISC reporting. Payments to corporations, including limited liability companies (LLCs) that are treated as C- or S- Corporations, and certain tax-exempt organizations are not reportable on Form 1099-MISC.
  • Non-U.S. publishers. If you exceeded the $0.49 global royalty payment threshold across all Amazon businesses, your IRS Form 1042-S will be issued on or before March 15. This form is an informational statement that the U.S. taxing authority (called the "Internal Revenue Service" or "IRS") requires Amazon to send to certain payees. An IRS Form 1042-S is generally provided to non-U.S. publishers that received U.S.-sourced income during the previous calendar year. The form shows payments made and taxes withheld, if any. The amount in Box 2 represents payments received from sales on the U.S. marketplace in USD. The amount in Box 7 represents any associated U.S. tax withholding deducted from these payments, also in USD.

How do I update my delivery preference?

  1. Sign in to KDP and click Your Account at the top of the page.
  2. Under My Account, click Tax Information
  3. Click View/Update Tax Information.
  4. Under "Go paperless for year-end tax forms," choose your delivery preference.
  5. Click Save Preference.

Changes to delivery preference made after December 31 won't take effect until the next filing year. Also, the option to download tax forms began for 2015 year-end forms (prior years currently not included).
