Manage Your KDP Account

Your KDP account is connected to and uses the same credentials as your Amazon customer account. Through your KDP account, you can manage the personal, bank, and tax information you entered while self-publishing eBooks and paperbacks through KDP.

Account updates

You can update your name, physical address, phone number, email address, bank, and tax information.

To complete any of these actions, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to KDP.
  2. Click Your Account at the top of the page.
  3. Follow the instructions for two-step verification.
  4. When your account page opens, update your information.
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.
  6. Update your information in the tax interview.

Update your email address

Whether you created your account at KDP first or used an existing Amazon customer account, you can update your email preferences in Your Account. To change your email address:

  1. Go to the Login & security page of your Amazon account.
  2. Sign in with your current email address and password.
  3. Under the Email section, click Edit.
  4. Enter the new email address and the characters you see in the security challenge.
  5. When you're done, click Save changes.

Note: To avoid creating duplicate accounts, remember to confirm and save your information in your KDP account after you make changes.

Edit bank account details

For security purposes, you can't edit an existing bank account's details. You need to go to your account, delete the existing bank account, and then add a new bank account.

  1. Sign in to KDP.
  2. Click Your Account at the top of the page.
  3. Follow the instructions for two-step verification.
  4. When your account page opens, click Getting Paid.
  5. Under Bank Account, click Delete account.
  6. Add a new bank account following the instructions based on your bank's location.
  7. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save.

Complete or update tax interview

U.S. tax regulations require Amazon to collect information about your tax status under U.S. law using our short online tax interview. This is because Amazon issues payments that can be regarded as income. We must receive and validate your tax identity information before you can update existing books or publish new books in the Kindle store.

To complete the tax interview:

  1. Go to your account page.
  2. Under "My Account," click Tax Information.
  3. Click Complete Tax Information. If you're updating your tax information, click View/Provide Tax Information.

Answer all questions and enter all information requested during the interview. You may retake the interview anytime your information or circumstances change. You can check the status of your tax information anytime under the "Tax Information" section of your KDP Account. Validated tax information will show a Tax Account Status of "Completed."

Learn the basics when it comes to handling your KDP account, and find answers to common questions.

Empty bookshelf

If you sign in to your KDP account and don't see your books, you may have signed in with the correct email address but a different password. To fix this:

  1. Sign out of KDP and Amazon.
  2. Clear your browser's cache and cookies, and then close your browser.
  3. Open your browser again, go to Your Account, and sign in with the email address and password combination you used to create your profile and upload your books.

If you're unsure which password you used, try resetting your password.

Merge accounts

To have your accounts merged, you need to contact us. You will need to:
  • Ensure to write from the email address associated with KDP account you want to merge to another account.
  • Provide a title of one book from each KDP account and its corresponding ASIN or ISBN.
  • Have live titles in both account.
  • Remove any Ads promoting your KDP titles and create new Ads from your new account.
  • Ensure your account information is updated to pay any outstanding royalties. Learn more about updating bank details.
Note: We cannot move specific titles/draft titles from one account to another.

Merging your KDP accounts will move your published books from your old KDP account to your new one. The below information will not be transferred:
  • Old account information
  • Tax interview details
  • Sales reports
  • Payment information to the new account
  • Active Ads running for your title published in old account

Reports will no longer be accessible with the old account. We recommend downloading your reports before merging accounts.

After you gather the information we need and verify your account details, contact us. We'll move the old account and then confirm that this is done.

Close an account

You need to contact us to have your account closed. Before we can close your account, you need to unpublish available books. If there are royalties pending in your account, please verify that your name, account number, and routing number are current and match the account information on file with your financial institution. This ensures that you receive outstanding royalties.

After you unpublish your books and verify your account details, contact us to authorize the closure of your account.

Reopen an account

To reopen an account, you need to contact us. Our team will evaluate the possibility of reopening your account.

Remove or delete books from the bookshelf

You can delete books in "Draft" status from your Bookshelf. If your book was previously published and available for sale, it can't be deleted. Also, paperbacks that were assigned an ISBN can't be deleted.

Contact KDP support

To contact us, follow these steps:
  • Sign to your KDP account
  • Scroll down and click Contact Us
  • Select a topic related to your issue in the left menu
  • Select your preferred contact method (email, phone)

If you’re contacting us through email, make sure:
  • Your email preferences accept incoming emails from KDP (@kdp-support.amazon.com)
  • Your inbox has enough space to receive emails
  • You are using an email address related to your KDP account
