Remove or unpublish a book

To remove a book from sale, you can unpublish it from the KDP Bookshelf. This means new copies cannot be sold on Amazon. However, used copies can still be sold by third parties.

If you need to make significant edits to your book, such as the title or manuscript, first unpublish your current book and then publish a new edition. You’ll follow the same steps to creating a new book as before, but instead you’ll use updated details.

To unpublish a book:

  1. Go to your Bookshelf.
  2. Click the ellipsis button (“...”) next to the book you want to unpublish.
  3. Click Unpublish.

Note: It takes up to 72 hours for a book to unpublish. Individual book formats (i.e. paperback vs eBook) can be unpublished and republished.

Removing a book from the Bookshelf

There are two options to remove a book from your Bookshelf: Delete or Archive.

If you started a book, and it’s a draft with no ISBN and never been published, you can delete it. This will permanently remove it from KDP and cannot be recovered.

If you want to hide a book from the Bookshelf’s default view, you can archive it. This does not change the book’s status. See more details about archiving.

To delete or archive a book:

  1. Go to your Bookshelf.
  2. Click the ellipsis button (“...”) next to the book you want to unpublish.
  3. Click Delete book or Archive title.
