Targeting Ad Campaigns

Sponsored Products

Sponsored products ads are targeted by keywords, so ads will be shown when a customer searches for the keywords selected in your targeting option.

With Automatic Targeting, Amazon targets your ads to all relevant customer keyword searches based on your product information.

With Manual Targeting, you can add your own keywords or phrases to your ad campaign based on your book's content, genre, and similar authors, or you can use suggested keywords from the ad builder. Manual Targeting allows you to edit your keywords after adding them to the ad. (Ad keywords are not the same as search keywords in your book’s metadata, which are subject to our Metadata Guidelines.)
Example Book: Wuthering Heights

Example Keywords: Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Tess of the D’Urbervilles, Emily Bronte, Charlotte Bronte, Jane Austen, classic fiction, classic romance, classic literature, famous literature, famous romance, free classics, free kindle books, free books kindle classic, famous kindle books, classic kindle fiction, classic romance on kindle, classic kindle books

Product Display

There are two targeting options available when creating a product display ad:

  • Product Targeting: Select other products’ detail pages (books or otherwise) where you want your ad to appear. Ads are shown when a customer visits the targeted product’s detail page.
  • Example book: Wuthering Heights

    Example related products:

    • Books: Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Tess of the D’Urbervilles
    • DVDs: Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey, North and South, Persuasion, Downton Abbey

  • Interest Targeting: Interest targeting finds customers based on the genre of books they view or purchase. Choose to target by picking genres related to the book you want to advertise. Using interest targeting qualifies ads for placement on Kindle E-readers, as long as the ad meets the ad acceptance policies. Ads are shown when a customer’s view or purchase history matches the targeted sub-genres.
Example book: Wuthering Heights

Example customer interests:

    • Literature and Fiction > Classics
    • Literature and Fiction > Women's Fiction
    • Romance > Historical
