Campaign Billing

You aren't charged unless someone clicks on your ad. Your credit card is charged periodically throughout the duration of your ad campaign, as the outstanding balance for your campaign reaches certain thresholds. After each charge, the next threshold increases until it reaches 10% of your campaign lifetime budget. Your credit card is then charged whenever your outstanding campaign balance reaches that amount.

For example, a campaign with a $1,000 budget will be charged after it accrues outstanding balances of $1, $5, $10, $20, $40, $80, $100 (10% of campaign budget), $100, and on until the entire lifetime budget is spent.

If your budget is not spent, you will not be charged the remaining amount. It will not transfer to another campaign.


Billing history

To view your billing history:
  1. Go to your KDP Reports page: http://kdp.amazon.com/reports
  2. Click "Ad Campaigns" to go to your Amazon Marketing Services account
  3. From the top navigation bar, click "Billing History"
Here you will find all the invoices for your billing history. This includes invoices that you've paid, as well as the most current invoice that is accruing charges. Clicking on each invoice will give you the date of billing, corresponding ad campaigns, status, amount, and other information.


Billing errors

Our attempt to charge your card may fail for a variety of reasons, many of which may not be related to the validity of the credit/debit card or available balance.

Here are a few steps you can take to help prevent errors:
  • Verify that the payment information for this ad is correct (expiration date, transposed digits, etc.)
  • Verify the billing address and phone number on your Amazon Marketing Services account match those associated with your credit card
  • Contact your issuing bank to ask about their restrictions regarding electronic or Internet purchases, or if the card has been updated or revised in any way recently
  • Update your payment method. You can go to your AMS account and check the paused ad. You'll see an alert to fix the billing error and you can change or update your payment details
Your ad will restart automatically once you update your credit card details. If your campaign is already past the end date you set and you've updated your credit card, you can submit a new ad.

To verify or update your credit card information, log in to your Amazon.com or Amazon Marketing Services account (not your KDP account). You can update or add a card at any time as long as your ad is not currently running. If you need to change your billing information, you can terminate your ad and create a new campaign with a new credit card.
