Buy Box Eligibility for Third-Party Sellers

Amazon allows third-party sellers to compete for the Buy Box across categories including KDP paperbacks. Buy Box eligible sellers are professional sellers who have met performance-based requirements. To learn more about Buy Box eligible status qualifications, visit this Help page.

Royalties & Sales

The royalty you earn varies by title and depends on several factors, including the amount of inventory held by third-party sellers and the price competitiveness of all sellers. Many online retailers use virtual inventory when listing on-demand titles which means the retailer might not have copies on hand. However, the title is still considered in stock to fulfill an order because it’s procurable through Amazon.

When a new copy is printed to fulfill a third-party seller’s order, you'll receive royalties at the rate that corresponds to the Amazon distribution option. If a third-party seller wins the Buy Box and sells a used copy, you would have already received the royalty when the book was originally sold.

Prime Shipping

When your paperback becomes available for sale by Amazon, it’s automatically enrolled in the Prime program and its shipping options for subscribed members. Third-party sellers can choose to offer Prime shipping. Amazon is not directly affiliated with these sellers, and we don't control certain aspects of their Amazon product listing and shipping terms.

Bestseller Lists

Third-party units aren’t included in Amazon sales data used for external bestseller lists.
