Important: Your tax info should reflect your legal name reported on tax forms and your bank info should match what's on your bank account.

Changing your phone number doesn’t update the number for two-step. Learn how to change your number for two-step verification.

Update/Access tax profile

U.S. tax regulations require Amazon to collect information about your tax status under U.S. law using our short online tax interview. This is because Amazon issues payments that can be regarded as income. We must receive and validate your tax identity information before you can update existing books or publish new books in the Kindle store.

To complete the tax profile:
  1. Go to your account page.
  2. Under Your Account, click Tax Information.
  3. Click Complete Tax Questionnaire. If you're updating your tax information, click Update/Access Tax Profile.
Answer all questions and enter all information requested during the interview. You may retake the interview anytime your information or circumstances change. You can check the status of your tax information anytime under the Tax Information section of your KDP Account. Validated tax information will show a status of “Tax Questionnaire Complete."

Multiple accounts

To manage your KDP books efficiently, we recommend you maintain all your KDP books under a single account. Both Amazon and KDP have a policy which prevents creating a second account under a different email address, or under an email address that's associated with an already existing account.

For more information, refer to our Terms and Conditions.

If you have Kindle books published through different KDP accounts, we can merge them all in to one and close the secondary account.

Merge accounts

To have your accounts merged, you'll need to review and provide the following:
  • Ensure to write from the email address associated with KDP account you want to merge into another account.
  • Have a least one book in "Live" status in the KDP account you want to merge into another account.
  • Provide a title of one book and its corresponding ASIN or ISBN from the KDP account you want to merge into another account.
  • Remove any Ads promoting your KDP books and re-create new Ads from your new account, if applicable.
  • Ensure your bank details information is updated to pay any outstanding royalties. Learn more about updating bank details.
Note: We cannot move specific books from one account to another.

Merging your KDP accounts will move your published books from your old KDP account to your new one. The below information will not be transferred:
  • Old account information
  • Tax profile details
  • Sales reports
  • Payment information to the new account
  • Active Ads running for your book published in old account
  • A+ Content. You can replicate your projects on the new account.
Reports will no longer be accessible with the old account. We recommend downloading your reports before merging accounts.

After you gather the information we need and verify your account details, contact us. We'll move the old account information to the new account and then confirm that this is done.

Authorize others to manage your KDP account

We do not recommend multiple users using the same login credentials to access an account.

Here are some potential issues:
  • It may be a security risk. For example, if someone with access to the account leaves your company or organization, that person might still be able to log in to the account.
  • It would require that all users have access to both the primary and backup devices when they log in.
  • If the two-step verification code is being sent to a mobile phone, and the owner of that phone isn’t available, the user trying to log in won’t receive the code.

Manage a deceased author's account

Our team can help you during this difficult time. To request access to a KDP author's account after they have passed away or become incapacitated, please contact us. To access the contact us form, either sign-in or create a free KDP account. We take security very seriously, so before we can help you access the account, you will need to provide the following documentation:

  • Death certificate
  • One of the following court-issued letters indicating that you own the rights to the account:
    • Estate Owner
    • Next Executor
    • Next of kin
    • Will
Once you have access to the account, our team can help you to either close, merge, or take ownership of the account.

Close account and delete my data

Once your KDP account is closed, it is no longer accessible to you, it cannot be restored, we will process your data deletion request, and your agreement to the KDP Terms and Conditions will be terminated. To learn more, visit our account closure FAQs.

Before closing your account: To submit a request to close your KDP account and delete your data:
  1. Go to close account and delete my data.
  2. Sign into your KDP account.
  3. A confirmation notification will be sent to the email address associated with your KDP account. You’ll have 10 days to confirm your request.

Once your request is confirmed, we will unpublish your books and process any outstanding royalties due to you, if eligible, in the next payment cycle. Please note, per our KDP Terms and Conditions, we may continue to sell any inventory we have of your print books, and we may fulfill any customer orders for your print books pending as of the date we confirm your account closure and data deletion request. We may continue to maintain digital copies of your digital books in order to provide continuing access to or re-downloads of your digital books, as well as digital copies of your books to support customers who have purchased your book prior to your account closure and data deletion request.
