Contact UsBoxed and Bundles Edition Guidelines (eBook format only)
Boxed and bundles editions are multi-book products containing two or more titles sold as a single item in the eBook format. These guidelines are designed to help authors, publishers, and selling partners create high-quality boxed editions and bundle products that provide positive customer experience.
When publishing a boxed edition or bundle, you must adhere to both these specific guidelines and the existing metadata guidelines for each attribute. Amazon invests significant time and resources to enforce these guidelines, using a combination of advanced pattern recognition, automation, and dedicated teams of human reviewers. Amazon will remove content that does not adhere to these guidelines and promptly investigate any book when notified of potential noncompliance. If we remove a title, we let the author, publisher, or selling partner know and they can appeal to our decision.
Strategic Direction: For eBooks, KDP encourages prioritizing individual titles linked to a series for better discoverability and reader flexibility. The following guidelines apply specifically to eBook boxed editions and bundles.
Note: Boxed Edition/Bundle Edition: A boxed/bundle set is a product containing the content of two or more individual titles grouped together and sold as a single product — either volumes from the same series or a collection of titles by the same author or within the same genre.
Contents
Title/Subtitle
The title of your boxed or bundle edition must clearly communicate to customers that the product contains multiple books. Customers rely on the title to understand what they are purchasing, and an inaccurate or misleading title can result in poor customer experience. For boxed and bundles guidelines, the title must follow the existing book title metadata guidelines and follow the best practices:
Best Practice Recommendations:
- Include a term that identifies the product as a multi-book item, such as "Boxed edition," "Collection," "Compilation," or "Bundle"
- Do not use titles that imply a single book when the product contains multiple books (e.g., avoid "The Ember Chronicles: Book One" for a multi-book set)
- Indicate the number of books included and if part of a series, the volume or sequence range (e.g., "The Ember Chronicles: The Complete Series, Books 1-5" or "A 3-Book Collection")
- If you have released or plan to release multiple boxed editions within the same series, the title must include a volume or sequence indicator (e.g., "Boxed edition 1," "Volume 1," "Part 1")
Product Description
The product description helps customers understand what is included in the boxed or bundle edition before they purchase. A clear and accurate description ensures customers know exactly what they are buying and sets appropriate expectations. In addition to the existing description of metadata guidelines, the description for a boxed or bundle edition should follow the best practices.
Best Practice Recommendations:
- The description must explicitly state that the product is a multi-book boxed or bundle edition, and this statement must appear in the opening paragraph of the description.
- A list of all individual titles included in the product. Each title must be listed separately, so customers can identify exactly which books are included.
- Disclosure of any content variations, such as updated editions, revised content, expanded editions, abridged versions, or previously published material. For updated/revised/expanded editions, this must be clearly indicated in the title (e.g., "Updated Edition," "Revised & Expanded," "Anniversary Edition"). If any included titles have been previously published under different covers, titles, or author names (re-skinned or re-released content), explicitly disclose this in the product description to prevent customer confusion.
- If any book within a bundle contains potentially sensitive, controversial, or mature content (including but not limited to graphic violence or explicit sexual content), appropriate content warnings should be included in the product description to help readers make informed purchasing decisions.
- Titles must clearly distinguish between complete bundles and preview/sampler collections. If the bundle contains excerpts, previews, or incomplete works, terms such as "Sampler," "Preview Collection," or "Excerpt Bundle" must appear in the title.
- If a book is part of an episodic or serialized release where the complete story spans multiple volumes, this must be clearly indicated in the product description (e.g., "Episode 1," and "Part 1 of 3"). The description must explicitly state that the story continues in subsequent volumes and is not complete within the purchased file.
- If a boxed edition or bundle contains previously published individual titles, it is recommended to include a statement such as: "These titles have been previously published as standalone books."
- If books within a bundle have different formatting characteristics (e.g., some with illustrations, some text-only, some with color images, some black-and-white), this must be explicitly stated in the product description. Example: "Please note: Books 1-3 in this collection include full-color illustrations, while Books 4-5 are text-only editions." or "This bundle includes both illustrated and non-illustrated titles. See individual book descriptions below for details."
Note: All existing KDP Product Description Guidelines apply to boxed editions and bundles. See KDP Product Description Guidelines for complete requirements.
Authors
The author's field helps customers identify who created the content in your boxed edition or bundle. Clear author attribution is especially important when a product contains works by multiple contributors, as it allows customers to understand the authorship of each included title.
Best Practice Recommendations:
- The name(s) of the author(s)/contributor(s) for each included title if the boxed or bundle contains works by multiple authors or contributors.
ISBN
A boxed or bundle edition is a distinct product, and should have its own unique ISBN, separate from the ISBNs of the individual titles it contains. You should not reuse or repurpose an ISBN from one of the individual books within the boxed or bundle edition. This ensures that the product is correctly identified in retail systems and that customers can find and purchase it without confusion.
An ISBN is recommended for boxed and bundles of editions to ensure the product is correctly identified. KDP can provide free ISBN, or you can provide your own. If you provide your own ISBN, it should match the ISBN entered during title setup. For eBook boxed editions: The ISBN should appear on the copyright page. Including the ISBN on the cover is optional but not required.
Best Practice Recommendations:
- Maintain a clear record of which ISBN belongs to the boxed edition versus those assigned to individual series titles, to avoid metadata conflicts.
- If you plan to publish multiple boxed editions of the same series (e.g., Books 1–3 and Books 4–6), assign a distinct ISBN to each volume of grouping.
Keywords
Keywords help customers discover your boxed or bundle edition through search. When selecting keywords, follow the existing keywords metadata guidelines and apply the following best practices specific to boxed and bundles editions:
- You may use terms such as "boxed," "bundle," "collection," or "series" as keywords to help customers find your product.
- Do not use the titles or names of individual authors from books not included in your product as keywords.
- Do not use keywords that inaccurately describe the contents of your boxed or bundle edition, such as including a book title that is not actually part of the product.
Table of Contents
A boxed or bundled edition must include a Table of Contents (TOC) that lists all individual titles included in the product. The TOC helps customers navigate between books and confirms that all advertised content is present.
Best Practice Recommendations:
- The TOC must be placed at the beginning of the product, before the content of the first individual book begins.
- For eBook boxed and bundles editions, the TOC entries must be hyperlinked so customers can navigate directly to the beginning of each individual book.
- Each entry in the TOC must list the full title of the individual book and, where applicable, the author's name if the product includes books by multiple authors.
- The TOC must accurately reflect the order in which the books appear in the product. For series boxed editions, books must appear in sequential series order.
Note: A Table of Contents that is incomplete, inaccurate, or missing may result in the product being flagged for review or removed from sale.
Cover Image
The cover image for a boxed or bundle edition must clearly communicate to customers that the product contains multiple books. Customers often make purchasing decisions based on the cover, so the cover must accurately represent the contents of the product. In addition to the existing cover image metadata guidelines, cover images for boxed and bundles editions follow the below best practices:
- The cover must visually indicate that the product is a multi-book item. Accepted approaches include displaying all individual book covers arranged together, displaying a single unified cover design with the number of books indicated or using design elements such as a spine layout that represents multiple volumes.
- The title, author name, and any series or volume information shown on the cover must match the corresponding metadata fields entered during title setup.
- The title (or author) of the book must be legible at thumbnail size, as customers frequently browse boxed and bundles editions in search results where images are displayed at reduced size.
- a) Feature image with individual book covers displayed
- b) 3D stacked covers with a colored (non-white) background
- c) 2D multiple covers with a colored or thematic background
