Payment Service Provider Program FAQ

Learn about Amazon's Payment Service Provider Program, including eligibility requirements and trouble-shooting details.

What is the Payment Service Provider Program?

To protect authors and readers from fraudulent activities, we launched the Payment Service Provider Program for KDP authors, which limits the types of bank accounts that we accept for the disbursement of KDP royalties. KDP authors who are eligible to use a Payment Service Provider (PSP) may receive their royalties to a bank account directly issued by a deposit-taking bank or to a bank account issued by a PSP that participates in Amazon's Payment Service Provider Program (see list of participating PSPs). KDP authors who are not eligible to use a PSP may receive their royalties to a bank account directly issued by a deposit-taking bank.

How do I know if I'm using a Payment Service Provider (PSP)?

You are using a PSP if the bank account you entered in your KDP account is managed by a payment company instead of directly issued to you by a deposit-taking bank.

How do I know if I'm eligible to use a PSP?

You are not eligible to use a PSP if you receive an email notification from KDP informing you that only accounts from deposit-taking banks are allowed. This notification will also appear in the Getting Paid section of your KDP account. If you have to switch to a deposit-taking bank, find out more by visiting Troubleshooting Common Bank Account Errors. Any royalty payments due to you will be on hold and you will be unable to publish on KDP until you change your bank account accordingly.

If you are currently using a PSP or update your bank account to a PSP and do not receive a request to use a deposit-taking bank, you are currently eligible to use a PSP.

How do I know if I need to provide another bank account or take additional action?

If you need to provide an updated bank account or take other actions connected to the Payment Service Provider Program for the disbursement of KDP royalties and to continue to publish on KDP, we'll notify you. If you need to update your bank account, follow the instructions on this Help article.

What if I continue using an ineligible bank account?

If we ask you to update your bank account and you do not, you won't be able to receive royalty payments or publish on KDP.

I am currently using a PSP with no issues. Do I have to take any action?

If your KDP account does not show a bank account error message in the Getting Paid section, no action is required. If you update your banking information in the future, you'll need to adhere to all payment requirements, including Amazon's Payment Service Provider Program requirements.

How do I switch to a participating PSP?

If you are eligible to use a PSP and need to switch to a participating PSP, follow these steps:

  1. Choose one of the currently participating PSPs
  2. Visit the participating PSP website of your choice, follow the instructions to apply for a bank account that supports your currencies, and complete the verification process required by the PSP.
  3. Once you've obtained the new bank account from a participating PSP and provided whatever information or documents your PSP requires in order to complete the required verification review, go to the Getting Paid section of your KDP account to update your bank account information.
  4. Provide any additional documentation that may be required by KDP to complete your bank account update process.
For questions on how to update your bank account, visit Add or Update a Bank Account.

I understand PSPs must perform verification and other risk management checks before I can use the bank account. How do I know if my PSP has completed them?

You can find your verification review status from your PSP account or by contacting your PSP directly. Your KDP Getting Paid section will indicate if there is pending verification action. To learn more about pending verification action with your PSP, visit Payment Service Provider Program Risk Management Controls.

I've provided all the verification information required by my PSP and my PSP has confirmed that no further steps are required. When will this be reflected on KDP?

It can take up to 24 hours for your participating PSP's verification review result to reflect on KDP. If you still see the error message noting that your bank is requesting additional verification in your Getting Paid section after 24 hours, contact your PSP directly to ensure the result has been published to Amazon's Payment Service Provider Program. If your PSP confirms that they have already published the verification review result to Amazon and it's been more than 24 hours, you can contact KDP Customer Service.

What if my participating PSP never completes the verification review?

If your PSP does not complete the required verification review after you received the email notification from KDP, you won't be able to receive royalty payments to that bank account or publish on KDP until the verification review is completed or you switch your payment method to a deposit-taking bank.

Note: Your PSP may require additional information or documents from you in order to complete this required step. Please contact your PSP directly for more information.

Whom should I contact for support if I have question about my bank account?

For issues with your bank account, please contact your bank directly. If you have confirmed your bank account is issued by a participating PSP but still have issues using it as your KDP bank account, you can contact KDP Customer Support.

How does Amazon work with participating PSPs in this program?

Participating PSPs must have appropriate risk and compliance controls in place and work with Amazon to reduce the potential for fraud and abuse. For more information, visit Payment Service Provider Program Updates.
