Kindle Edition Normalized Page (KENP)

Kindle Edition Normalized Page (KENP)

We developed the Kindle Edition Normalized Page (KENP) to determine a Kindle eBook's page count in a way that works across formats, genres, devices, and display settings. KENP is calculated using standard formatting settings (for example: font, line height, line spacing). We use KENP to measure the number of pages customers read or listen to of your book. This starts at the Start Reading Location (SRL) and goes to the end of your book. Amazon typically sets the SRL at chapter 1. This is so readers can start reading or listening to the core content of your book as soon as they open it. Non-text elements within books including images, charts, and graphs will count toward KENP.

Authors are able to earn a maximum of 3,000 Kindle Edition Normalized Pages (KENP) Read per title per customer. This means that each time your book is borrowed and read or listened to, you can receive credit for up to 3,000 pages. We believe this results in an equitable distribution of the KDP Select Global Fund.

You can see total pages read on the Kindle Edition Normalized Page Read section of your reports.

KENP rate

KENP Rate is the amount we pay, aggregated for per page read or listened to from Kindle+. We announce the KDP Select Global Fund amount for the prior month near the 15th of the following month. For example, the September fund amount will be announced around October 15.

The KENP Rate is the total fund amount for a given marketplace divided by the total KENP read in that marketplace for that month. Learn more about the KENP Report.
