Terms and Conditions for the Beta Version of Kindle Translate

These terms (the “Kindle Translate Terms”) apply to your participation in our Kindle Translate Program (as described in Section 1 below) and supplement the Kindle Direct Publishing Terms and Conditions (the “KDP Terms”, and as supplemented by these Kindle Translate Terms, the “Agreement”). All capitalized terms used but not defined in these Kindle Translate Terms have the meanings set forth in the KDP Terms.
These terms (the “Kindle Translate Terms”) apply to your participation in our Kindle Translate Program (as described in Section 1 below) and supplement the Kindle Direct Publishing Terms and Conditions (the “KDP Terms”, and as supplemented by these Kindle Translate Terms, the “Agreement”). All capitalized terms used but not defined in these Kindle Translate Terms have the meanings set forth in the KDP Terms.
- Kindle Translate Program. The Kindle Translate Program enables you to create translated editions of your Digital Books using our Kindle Translate service (each such translated edition, a "Kindle Translate Edition") and make Kindle Translate Editions available to Amazon customers. The Kindle Translate Program constitutes part of the Program, and Kindle Translate Editions constitute "Digital Books" and "Books" under the KDP Terms.
- Eligibility. In order to offer a Kindle Translate Edition, the Digital Book being translated must meet the following requirements: (i) it must be currently offered for sale in a language eligible for translation via the Kindle Translate Program, (ii) it must not consist primarily of content in the public domain, (iii) it must be a Digital book for which you hold the applicable translation rights, and (iv) it must not itself be a Kindle Translate Edition. We reserve the right to determine which Digital Books we accept into the Kindle Translate Program, and accordingly we may choose not to allow creation of a Kindle Translate Edition for your Digital Book or to remove your Kindle Translate Edition from sale at any time. We may decline to offer a Kindle Translate Edition if we are unable to create a translation that meets our quality standards.
- Grant of Rights. Solely with respect to Kindle Translate Editions, the print and distribution rights you grant to Amazon under Section 5.5 of the KDP Terms are and will remain exclusive to the Amazon parties. You additionally grant to each Amazon party a nonexclusive, irrevocable, right and license to translate each Digital Book you submit to the Kindle Translate Program. Amazon retains ownership of Kindle Translate Edition files, and you may not sell or distribute Kindle Translate Editions outside of the Program. Unless your Kindle Translate Edition is enrolled in KDP Select and subject to the exclusivity right granted to Amazon pursuant to Section 1 of the Terms and Conditions for KDP Select Program (the “KDP Select Terms”) contained within the KDP Terms, you may create alternative translations of your Digital Book in the same language as the Kindle Translate Edition and distribute those alternative translations outside of the Program.
- KDP Select Enrollment. If a Digital Book is enrolled in KDP Select when you submit a Kindle Translate Edition of the Digital Book for self-publishing, Amazon may enroll the Kindle Translate Edition in KDP Select. This enrollment will last for a period of 90 days starting from the date of publication and will automatically renew for additional 90-day periods, unless you opt out through the KDP website before renewal. Kindle Translate Editions that are included in KDP Select are subject to the KDP Select Terms, including the exclusivity right granted to Amazon.
- Updates and Improvements. We reserve the right to add, remove, refine, or modify the features and functionality available through the Kindle Translate Program. Information and material you provide may be used to improve our products and services.
- Amendment. We reserve the right to change the Kindle Translate Terms at any time. We will give you notice of changes by posting new terms in place of the old at https://kdp.amazon.com/help/topic/G3QW74S97633MNF6 with a revision date indicated at the top or by sending an email to the email address then registered for your Program account. Except to the extent modified by these Kindle Translate Terms with respect to the Kindle Translate Program and Kindle Translate Editions, all terms in the KDP Terms remain unchanged and in full force and effect.
