Language & Reading direction

Language

When setting up your book in KDP, you’ll need to select the language in which your book is written. It is important that the language you select in the bookshelf, the language in which the book is written, and the language specified in your content file’s metadata do match. KDP currently supports over 45 languages. If your book includes multiple languages, select the primary language.

Reading direction

For some specific languages like Japanese that are written in horizontally (left to right orientation) or vertically (right to left orientation), you need to select reading direction. The reading direction indicates which way a book will be physically navigated when turning the page. It is important to select the reading direction to match with your content’s reading direction. For paperback, cover file layout also needs to match with the reading direction.
