Paperback Royalty (Beta)

Paperback royalty rates are 60% of your list price minus printing costs, applicable taxes and withholding.

To provide you with insight into your earning potential from a sale, we estimate royalties at 60% of your list price minus printing cost. Estimated royalty does not include any applicable taxes or withholding.

You can see your estimated royalty under the Royalty and Pricing section of the Paperback Pricing page, and royalties will show on your reports as your paperbacks are shipped to customers.

See our Getting Paid Help page for information on choosing your payment method, payment thresholds, and payment timelines.

 Calculating Printing Cost

Based on your chosen print options, KDP automatically calculates and   displays your printing cost in the Summary section of the Paperback   Content page and in the Royalty and Pricing section of the Paperback   Pricing page.

We calculate your paperback's printing cost by adding the applicable   fixed cost to the product of your page count multiplied by the   applicable per page cost:

  • Fixed Cost + (Page Count * Per Page Cost) = Printing Cost

 Learn more about printing costs.

 Example:

Printing cost of a 300-page black ink paperback sold in the US marketplace (i.e., Amazon.com):

  • Fixed Cost + (Page Count * Per Page Cost) = Printing Cost
  •
  • $0.85 (Fixed Cost) + (300 (Page Count) * $0.012 (Per Page Cost)) = $4.45 (Printing Cost)
  •

Minimum List Price

KDP uses a Minimum List Price to ensure that your royalties are always enough to cover printing cost.

KDP's pricing grid automatically calculates your paperback's minimum   list price in each marketplace. KDP will not allow you to enter a list price lower than the minimum threshold.

To determine your minimum list price, we divide your paperback's printing cost by the royalty rate (60%).

Example

Minimum list price for a 300-page black ink paperback sold in the US marketplace (i.e., Amazon.com):

  • Printing Cost / 60% (Royalty Rate) = Minimum List Price
  •
  • $4.45 (Printing Cost) / 60% (Royalty Rate) = $7.42 (Minimum List Price)
Maximum List Price

You can set the price of your paperback above the minimum threshold   up to a maximum of $250 (US), €250 (EU marketplaces), or Ұ24,000 (JP).
