eBook List Price Requirements
Effective July 7, 2026, the 70% royalty option price band is $2.99-$12.99 on Amazon.com, expanding from the previous range of $2.99-$9.99, with equivalent changes in other KDP marketplaces. Note: The 70% royalty option applies only to purchases of qualifying Digital Books by customers in certain territories. For sales to customers in Brazil, Japan, Mexico, and India, Digital Books must also be enrolled in KDP Select to be eligible for the 70% royalty option. Price Band Changes FAQs
Q1. How is the 70% royalty option band changing?
The maximum list price for the 70% royalty option for eBooks has changed from $9.99 to $12.99 on Amazon.com, with equivalent amounts in other KDP marketplaces. The minimum list price of $2.99 and the 35% royalty option remain unchanged.
Q2. Why are you making this change?
The previous $9.99 maximum list price for the 70% royalty option has been in place since 2007. With this change, you have more pricing flexibility for your eBook for the 70% royalty option.
Q3. Am I required to change my list price?
No. You don't need to update your list price. Your current price and royalty option stay the same unless you choose to make a change.
Q4. Can I switch my books to the 70% royalty option at my current list price? How do I reprice my eBook?
If your eBook is currently on the 35% royalty option, is priced between $2.99 and $12.99, and meets the other eligibility requirements, you can switch to the 70% royalty option. If your eBook is already on the 70% royalty option, you can update your list price at any time. Learn more in How to update your book’s price.
Q5. How can I calculate my royalties at different list prices?
You can preview your estimated royalty payout before publishing. Go to the Pricing, royalty, and distribution section of the eBook Pricing tab to see estimated royalties for each royalty option at your chosen list price.
Q6. Does this change affect delivery costs, the 35% royalty option, translated eBooks, or audiobooks with virtual voice?
This change only expands the list price range for the 70% royalty option. Other areas aren't affected:
- Delivery costs – No change. Delivery costs still apply to the 70% royalty option. Learn more in Digital Book Pricing Page.
- 35% royalty option – No change. List price minimums and maximums and royalty rates remain the same.
- Translated eBooks – Translated editions linked to your original eBook automatically inherit any list price or royalty option updates you make to the original. If you've set a separate royalty option for a translated edition, you need to update it independently. Learn more about pricing options for translations.
- Audiobooks with virtual voice – No change. Minimum and maximum list prices and royalties for audiobooks with virtual voice are managed separately in the title setup add-on. Learn more about list prices for audiobooks.
