List price

To set your list price, enter an amount within the minimum and maximum range under Pricing and royalties during audiobook setup. Note: the audiobooks with virtual voice beta is only available for books to be distributed in the US marketplace at this time.

  • Minimum list price: $3.99 USD
  • Maximum list price: $14.99 USD

The list price you set will be used to inform the final sale price depending on the transaction type. The price at which we sell your audiobook may not be the same as the price you set. For instance, we might sell your audiobook at a lower price to match a third party's price, or we may offer your audiobook at a discounted price to Audible members. For beta, you will be paid a 40% royalty on all sales, but in the future, we may pay at a lower royalty rate for books sold below the minimum list price.

Note that if a customer purchases your audiobook in addition to the associated eBook on Amazon.com, the audiobook will be offered as an add-on to the eBook purchase for a discounted price.

Royalties

KDP currently offers a 40% royalty rate for audiobooks with virtual voice sold on Amazon and in Audible stores where KDP supports audiobook distribution: Audible app, audible.com, Amazon Music Unlimited, Alexa, and Amazon.com.

For Add-on and Audible Listener Over Plan (ALOP) transactions (described further in the chart below), royalties are calculated based on the sale price, which can differ depending on the transaction type.

For credit transactions and monthly audiobook selections, royalties are based on both the royalty rate and the "Audible Listener Allocation Factor" (also known as the "Allocation Factor"), which weights payments based on an audiobook's list price. Audible takes the list price and multiplies it by the royalty rate and then by the Allocation Factor, which is the quotient of actual total member revenue divided by the aggregate regular price for member-selected titles in a given accounting period.

Royalties for all purchase types are paid monthly, approximately 60 days after the end of the month in which the sale was reported. Learn more about when you will get paid.

KDP Select

Your audiobook's KDP Select enrollment status is determined by the eBook of the same title. If your eBook is enrolled in KDP Select, the associated audiobook with virtual voice will also be enrolled in KDP Select and only your eBook will remain available through Kindle Unlimited.

Your audiobook will also be included in the unlimited listening catalog available to Audible Plus and Premium Plus subscribers. Earnings for each subscription program are based on a number of factors, such as customer reading behavior and subscription pricing. As a result, the payout rate for pages listened to from Audible's subscriptions may differ from what your eBook earns for pages read in Kindle Unlimited (KU). The audiobooks with virtual voice beta will not impact the funds available for qualified reads of eBooks. Audiobooks with virtual voice listening activity from Audible Plus is paid for from a separate fund that is in addition to the fund amount paid for Kindle Unlimited eBook reading activity.

As with eBooks, audiobooks enrolled in KDP Select must be exclusive to Audible for the KDP Select enrollment period. This requirement applies to any audio edition of that book. If the audiobook with virtual voice is unpublished, exclusivity will still be required through the remainder of the current 90-day period of participation in KDP Select.

Note: Audiobooks with virtual voice are not currently eligible for Free Book Promotions and Kindle Countdown Deals (KCD).
