Delay or cancel a release

This article shares more information about delaying or cancelling your pre-order.

Delay release date

You can delay your release date up to 30 days, without penalty, as a one-time exclusion. This one time exclusion applies to your whole catalog, not just the postponed book.

You won't be able to set up a new pre-order for one year or extend release dates for other existing pre-orders if you delay a pre-order more than once.

How to delay a pre-order release:

  1. Go to your Bookshelf.
  2. Select the ellipsis button ("…") under KINDLE EBOOK ACTIONS next to the eBook you want to update.
  3. Choose Edit eBook details.
  4. In the Pre-order section, click Edit release date.
  5. Enter the new date and click OK.
  6. Go to Kindle eBook Rights & Pricing.
  7. Select Save and continue.
  8. Scroll to bottom of page and Submit for pre-order.

Customers who pre-ordered the eBook will receive an email telling them you delayed the release.

Cancel a release

A pre-order release will be cancelled if you unpublish the eBook, miss the submission deadline, or by request. Cancellation of a pre-order's release date is applicable for pre-order eBooks in the 'Pre-order Live' status.

If you cancel a scheduled pre-order, you won't be able to set up any other eBook for pre-order for one year.

How to cancel a pre-order:

  1. Go to your Bookshelf.
  2. Select the ellipsis button ("…") under KINDLE EBOOK ACTIONS next to the eBook you want to update.
  3. Select Unpublish eBook.
  4. You'll see a message displayed to inform you that if you unpublish and cancel the pre-order, you won't be able to set up any other eBook for pre-order for one year.
  5. If you would like to continue, click Unpublish.

After you unpublish the eBook, your pre-order will be cancelled and no further edits can be made to the title.
