Troubleshoot search results

There may be several factors influencing search results. If your book isn’t showing up from the search result, you can troubleshoot by reviewing how your book is set up.

Review selected territories

You can review the territory selection you made when setting up your book. Availability of books may vary based on your home country or region, affecting search results you see. To check on selected territories:

  1. Sign in to: https://kdp.amazon.com
  2. Go to your Bookshelf to find the book you were searching for
    • For eBooks: go to the Kindle eBook Pricing page
    • For paperback or hardcover: go to the Paperback or Hardcover Rights & Pricing page
  3. Confirm the territories where you have rights to sell this book. This will determine where the book is available for sale and how they appear on Amazon

For more information on distribution rights, refer to eBook Distribution Rights or Paperback and Hardcover Distribution Rights.

Confirm intended primary audience

If you used the correct Amazon department, selected the correct territories, and you're still not seeing your book in search results, your book might be categorized as an adult item. Books containing sexually explicit images or titles will not surface in general product searches. This is to provide an appropriate shopping experience for all customers.

If you incorrectly indicated your book contains sexual images or titles, you can update your book's primary audience by doing the below:

  1. Sign in to: https://kdp.amazon.com
  2. Go to your KDP Bookshelf
  3. Click "Continue setup" next to the book you want to update
  4. On the book's details page, scroll to the Primary Audience section
  5. Under Sexually Explicit Images or Title, select No
  6. Go to the bottom of the page and click Save and Continue
  7. Click the Publish button at the bottom of the Rights & Pricing page to update your selection

Important: The above instructions are only applicable if you've incorrectly identified your primary audience for your book. If KDP identifies sexual images or title language, your book will be marked as sexually explicit, and you will not be able to change this. Learn more about our Metadata Guidelines.

Book is published in different formats

To show customers more choices in their search results, Amazon generally displays only one format for each book in search results. For example, if you've published your book in different formats and the paperback edition may be shown on search results while the Hardcover, Kindle, and Audio Book editions of the same work also exist.

To view available book format options:

  1. Go into your book's product detail page
  2. Click "See all formats and editions" to view available book format options

Search results on other search engines

Amazon has no information to provide on how other search engines (for example: Google, Firefox, Safari) display search results on their site. There are different factors that a respective search engine uses to determine how it finds and select information to display. Amazon cannot change search results on other search engines.
